CVC Word Wall Cards

A word wall only works when a child can find a word and read it without help. Each card below shows the word in large display type and its phonetics underneath in small text, so the word itself stays the thing being read — the IPA is there for the adult, not the child.

The vowels are colour-coded to match the rest of the site: a e i o u. Keep that colour on every worksheet and card you print and the child gets a second cue for free.

Word Wall FAQ

How many word wall cards are there?

230 cards, one per CVC word, split across the five short vowels. The same set is available as a print-ready PDF.

How big are the cards?

On screen each card is a few centimetres wide; printed, six cards fit on an A4 sheet. Print on card stock and laminate if the wall gets touched a lot.

How should I organise the wall?

By vowel first, then by word family inside each vowel. That mirrors the word family order the rest of the site uses, so a child can find the word they practised in the same place on the wall.
